Happy Birthday to us! On June 6, Blo turned 11 years old. Over the past decade, we’ve grown from a mother-daughter venture based in Vancouver, Canada to an international brand with now over 116 locations sold, and we couldn’t have done that without all of our ah-mane-zing Franchise Partners and our fab blo babes.
To celebrate our Birthday, we planned a scavenger hunt across 11 different cities on June 6 (shout out to the Franchise Partners that helped us out!) Our blo babes were given clues on social media to follow along and find hot-pink envelopes filled with gift certificates. We continued the celebrations with a giveaway the very next day as well, so no babe felt left out.
This year has been one of the biggest years for Blo in terms of growth. We reached our goal of 100 locations sold by January 2018, and only 6 months later, we’ve sold an additional 16, with more on the way!

2007: Two Canadian women have a revolutionary idea: provide women with red carpet-quality hair at affordable prices. Three Blo locations were opened in Vancouver, and a new category of blow-dry only hair salons was born.
2008: Blo was propelled to new heights when Toronto entrepreneur, Ari Yakobson, and a group of investors acquired Blo and combined their business expertise with this successful retail concept. They re-launched Blo as a franchise system with a mission to provide high-quality, affordable, convenient beauty services in a fun, modern store environment. Several successful Canadian franchise locations in Toronto opened shortly thereafter.
2010: The first US-based franchise opened in San Francisco. The blow dry bar concept continued to gain traction and demand fueled Blo’s expansion.
2016: Blo welcomed founding partner, Vanessa Melman Yakobson, as CEO of the growing brand.
2017: Blo started off their 10th year by opening their 57th location, with 15 more opening by the end of the year.
2018: Blo held their first Annual Meeting in Atlanta, bringing the entire Blo family together for the first time. By mid-2018, we’ve exceeded 100 locations sold, and are ready to paint more cities pink!
Like fine wine, we get better with age. We can’t wait to see what our 12th year looks like.
