8 Questions with Franchise Partner, Kari Valcich

What led you to look for a Franchise opportunity?

I had been in the corporate world for almost two decades and I had the opportunity to leave that behind.  I was ready for a change and to become my own boss, responsible for my own destiny.  I knew I wanted to open a business, and the franchise route made the most sense to me since I would be a first time business owner.

Why did you ultimately select Blo?

Choosing Blo just felt right.  I had always been a fan of blow dry bars, and Blo really stood out to me – the brand is stylish and fun, the model made so much sense to me, and what ultimately sealed the deal was getting to know the corporate team and feeling the support from them.

What is your day to day role in the business?

I am a constant presence at my bars.  I oversee all staff and admin operations to ensure everything is running as efficiently as possible. I handle all marketing & promotions and I make sure to take time to speak with and get to know my guests. I always help my staff and pitch in when needed (anywhere from front desk duties to cleaning).

What has been the most rewarding and challenging aspects of owning your Blo location?

The most rewarding aspect has been receiving all of the positive feedback from my clients and literally being thanked by them for bringing Blo to their community.  I’d also add that it is extremely rewarding to enhance a woman’s confidence and seeing their smile and ‘wow’ when they look in the mirror is everything.

What has been the most challenging aspect of owning your Blo location?

I am really big on culture and building what is essentially the backbone of our business – our staff.  The challenge is finding folks who are dedicated and passionate about this business and who really care.  It’s not impossible, but I’ve found it’s certainly one of the most challenging aspects of owning this business.

You opted to open up your second location within a year of your first, what led you to that decision?

I experienced some initial success and received great feedback with my first location so it felt natural to go for the second in such a short timeframe.

Would you consider opening a 3rd location?

Yes, I would absolutely consider opening a 3rd location and look forward to it.

Have you been satisfied with your results so far?

I am satisfied with my results so far.  Everything is meeting or exceeding my expectations and I look forward to what the future holds.
